Electors have until midnight on Monday to register to vote in the UK general election.

Poll cards were posted to all registered electors in the Western Isles earlier this month.

People who have not received a poll card should contact the Electoral Registration Officer on 01851 706262 to ensure that your name appears on the register.

Under the new individual electoral registration system an applicant’s national insurance number or another form of identification is required to register.

Anyone wishing to apply for a postal vote should apply to the Electoral Registration Officer as soon as possible.

The final postal vote deadline is 5pm on Tuesday but if an individual first requires to be added onto the electoral register there may be delays.

The closing date to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday, April 28.

The website www.gov.uk/register-to-vote offers a quick way of registering and to apply for a postal vote.
