► Western Isles EU referendum count breakdown chart

The sprawling Westside and Ness area of Lewis was the only Western Isles community to vote to leave the European Union.

Some 700 voters in the large ward - which takes in Ness, Galson, Barvas, Bragar and Shawbost - favoured coming out while 680 people opted to remain.

A breakdown of the local voting pattern shows the Point district had the highest proportion of people going out to vote.  Turnout there was nearly 74% compared to the South Uist and Barra ward where the figure of 61% is the lowest electorate response in the islands.

The numbers voting by post was the equivalent of three to four wards. Some 3829 out of the 4863 islanders who applied returned a postal ballot pack, a turnout of about 82%.
