Vodafone aims for reliable 3G coverage      4/10/14

Isles SNP MP Angus MacNeil is urging the 28 community councils in the Western Isles to sign up to Vodafone’s Rural Open Sure Signal Programme, which offers to bring reliable 3G coverage to their area.

The programme has so far connected 12 rural areas in the United Kingdom, and they hope that another 100 communities will sign up as soon as possible so that they too can receive improved Vodafone coverage in their area.

Angus MacNeil said: “This is a good initiative from Vodfone, and it comes at a time when the majority of people in our local communities are more reliant than ever on reliable technology to go about their daily lives. So far a number of rural areas have signed up to this scheme, and I would encourage as many villages as possible in Na H-Eileanan an Iar to do the same.

“Communities have until the 14th of October to fill in and return the application form, a copy which is attached. The communities that have so far been connected can now make calls and use good quality mobile internet, and local businesses can stay in touch with customers more effectively.”
