A Lewis pensioner has had his car seized after he appeared in court over alleged drink driving charges.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court, John Macleod, of 30B Arnol, pleaded not guilty to an allegation that he drove between Barvas and his home village on Wednesday while four times the legal alcohol limit.

Macleod also denies drink driving on the Barvas to Shawbost road one day in June.

He also pleaded not guilty to an accusation he failed to stop and give his details after allegedly causing an accident by colliding with a Vauxhall Vivaro van.

Sheriff Valerie Johnston allowed bail and imposed a temporary driving ban on Macleod.

Macleod is to stand trial in October.

The sheriff granted an application from procurator fiscal Karen Smith to seize his vehicle until then.
