A 24-year-old hotel worker smashed windows in vandalism spree last month.

Andrew Chippendale broke six windows in a house in Airidhbruaich, Lewis.

He also damaged four windows in a car outside the property.

The  Australian - who admitted the offences - was fined a total of £600 when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court today.

He also received six points on his driving licence for refusing to tell police who was the driver of his car.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith said a householder in the village heard a vehicle stopping outside at 2am on 25 August.

A few minutes later, he heard windows being smashed.

Police later traced Chippendale under the influence of alcohol and with bloodstained fingers.

The court heard he had lost his job in a Harris hotel over the offences and intends to return to Edinburgh.
