A visiting tradesman who severely injured a Lewis man has been fined £400.

Brian McEwan, of Pollok in Glasgow, was also ordered to pay £750 compensation to his victim.

The 32-year-old broke a bone in the islander’s face with a single punch in the unprovoked assault on Point Street Stornoway early on the morning of Sunday 15 January.

His victim fell to the ground and was unconscious for a time, procurator fiscal Karen Smith told Stornoway Sheriff Court.

McEwan was one of a squad of mainland painters and decorators which had a contract at the redeveloped Lews Castle.
