Sir,

Nicola Sturgeon, and her SNP colleagues, should be reminded that many people across Scotland were jubilant with the Brexit vote last week, over a million of them in fact.  Holyrood may wish to delude themselves, and hoodwink the ‘leavers,’ when they state that ‘Scotland spoke with one voice’ but the reality is otherwise. Over one million Scots loudly voted at the ballot box and said ‘no thank you’ to the EU.  Hopefully the ‘remainers’ will yet see how corrupt and undemocratic the EU institution is within its bureaucratic corridors of power in Brussel.

Letter:  One million Scots voted to leave "corrupt and undemocratic" EU

27 June 2016

Those in Scotland who voted to leave did so as part of a UK wide decision.  Nobody has any right whatsoever to complain as it is not yet 2 years since Scotland voted, quite decisively, to remain as part of the UK.  They did so knowing quite well that an EU Referendum would be inevitable either sooner or later.

Instead of being fixated and overly obsessed with Scottish Independence, it is high time the SNP government at Holyrood got their heads down and focused on the primary and fundamental issues, that affect our country, for which they were voted in by the electorate in the first place.  At the moment they are certainly not doing a very good job of it, and shame on them.

It is most reassuring to hear many staunch SNP followers, who voted for independence at the last count, already clearly stating that they wouldn’t do so again, if their party launches another senseless referendum for the sake of getting Scotland back into the EU.

This would be altogether deceptive, devious and dictatorial, as their ultimate, and underhand, strategy and craving is – certainly not unification with the Union we have just left - but rather separation from the Union we are in.  This is a sinister ploy from Holyrood which would, inevitably, have serious repercussions.

It is high time that politicians in Edinburgh ate humble pie and graciously accepted that we, in Scotland, have voted to be united with the UK, while the UK has also now voted to leave the EU.  This is democracy at work, and the people have spoken.

While we have the privilege, in a free and democratic society, to cast our vote at the ballot box - and then accept whatever the outcome is - it is ultimately God, our Sovereign ruler, who determines the destiny of a nation: 'For the kingdom is the Lord's: and He is the governor among the nations...our God is in the heavens: and He doeth whatsoever he hath pleased.'

Having turned our backs on the God of heaven, no wonder our once great nation is in the pitiful state that it's currently in.  It is certainly not so-called Independence that will make Scotland a great nation again, but rather complete dependence upon God and His word, as recorded in the pages of the Bible.  When we do recover our spiritual heritage then unimaginable blessing will surely follow, just as God has promised: 'And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing.'

Unlike our politicians God never lies, and neither does He play tricks with His words.  He says what He means, and He means what he says.  We can be assured of His certain promise when we vote for Him to give us back our nation for the good and spiritual freedom of all our people across Scotland: 'Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance...righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.' (Psalms 33:12 & Proverbs 14:34).
