Ferry pier improvements at Ullapool Harbour have been praised at the Saltire Civil Engineering Awards.
The upgrade was required as a result of the introduction of Road Equivalent Tariff (RET) as well as larger MV Loch Seaforth starting service.
Initial plans to build a cross tied combi wall were abandoned when it became clear that 40% of all ferry sailings would be lost during construction.

The innovated solution received a commendation at the engineering awards which recognises excellence in civil engineering schemes.
Gordon Pomphrey, chair of the assessors’ panel, said it was a "fine example of lateral thinking to provide an appropriate low risk solution to a difficult construction problem.
"That the works were completed on time and with no loss of sailings is testament to the skills of the members of the project team.”
