This year’s provincial Uist Mòd due to be held South Uist later this week has been cancelled following the Manchester terror bombing.

 

Organisers announced last night the event would not go ahead.

 

The impact of the atrocity has cast a dark gloom over South Uist which has close links with Barra and Vatersay where the two teenagers came from.

 

Eilidh Macleod who as killed in the explosion was a keen bagpiper with Sgoil Lionacleit Pipeband.

 

An Uist Mòd  spokesperson said: “In light of the tragic incident in Manchester yesterday, we have decided to postpone this year's Mòd until further notice.

 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in Barra and the wider community.”
