Two years in jail for embezzlement 18/1/12
A former Western Isles bank manager has been jailed for two years after embezzling £55,000 from an island charity.
Stornoway Sheriff Court heard that Norman Mackenzie, of 18 Aiginish, Point, Lewis, stole the cash over an eight year period between 29th September 1998 to 28th March 2006 from the Western Isles Kidney Machine Trust at the Stornoway branch of the Bank of Scotland.
The 56-
Sheriff David Sutherland said he would have imprisoned Mackenzie for three years but for his early plea.
The Western Isles Kidney Machine Trust was established around 30 years ago to raise funds for dialysis equipment for island patients suffering from kidney failure. It is not connected to the Western Isles Kidney Patients Association.
