There are two RNLI lifeboats in Stornoway this weekend as the 'Roger & Joy Freeman' joins the town's 'Tom Sanderson' lifeboat berth.

The Stornoway RNLI lifeboat 'Tom Sanderson' will leave the islands for six months on Monday when she travels to Girven for a major refit, including being fitted with new engines.

The Stornoway crew brought the relief lifeboat 'Roger & Joy Freeman' up from Troon this week, leaving Troon on Tuesday morning and stopping off at Islay, Tobermoray and Mallaig before arriving in Stornoway on Wednesday evening.

The relief lifeboat ‘Roger & Joy Freeman’ is an all-weather Severn class lifeboat – same as the ‘Tom Sanderson’ – with the only difference being the onboard inflatable boat is launched with a crane on the relief lifeboat.
