An SNP councillor has been charged with failing to comply with a planning enforcement notice over his wind turbine on his croft at Bornish in South Uist.

Calum MacMillan allegedly allowed his Enercon E33 turbine to operate during the set hours banned by the enforcement notice which took effect from 21 June last year.

Mr Macmillan is charged as a director of Hebridean Energy which controls the land concerned, and as an individual.

A third charge accuses the site owner, Torranais Ltd, of a similar allegation.

No plea was made when the case called at Lochmaddy Sheriff Court and the matter was adjourned for four weeks.

The enforcement notice instructed the shut-down of the turbine apart from weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturday mornings following allegations of excess noise above agreed limits.
