The Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has paid tribute to former councillor Donald Macdonald of Scalpay.

 

Mr Macdonald died on Sunday aged 68 years.

 

He was elected to the Comhairle in 1990, serving until 2007.

 

Convener Norman A Macdonald said: “Donald was a good man who cared and worked for his community tirelessly.

 

"He was a very active participant in all of the Comhairle’s processes and served as vice-chair of transportation, chair of contract services and also chair of the commercial operations board.

 

"Donald was a key driver of the Scalpay Bridge project and many other beneficial works for his community.

 

"Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this very sad time.”

 

The funeral will take place on Wednesday morning at 11am.
