Hebrides News

Hebrides News has the first photos of the stricken Transocean oil rig being loaded onto a heavy lift ship.

The images show the rig tied to the heavy loader, the Hawk, and being positioned by tugs in Broad Bay, Lewis, today.

The heavy lift vessel is partially sunk in the sea and the rig was floated over her deck.

Later toady, if all goes well, the ship will commence the deballasting and start to slowly rise. The plan is to lift the rig out of the water as dry cargo.

The rig grounded at Dalmore on the west coast of Lewis in a storm two months ago.

It was taken to Broad Bay after being salvaged off the rocks.
