OPPORTUNITY TO TRAIN TO BE AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER

STORNOWAY AIRPORT

Salary during initial training: £ 21,433 per annum

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a rewarding and challenging career as an Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) at our airport in Stornoway.  We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, determined to succeed and genuinely committed to building their career with us.  In return, we offer funded training, an attractive salary (which increases upon successful completion of courses), ongoing learning and development, an excellent company pension scheme and generous annual leave allowance.

Air traffic controlling requires a very specific skill set and the selection process therefore involves a number of assessments.  You need excellent spatial awareness, visual-motor coordination and memory skills as well as the capacity to multi-task in a complex, demanding, pressurised and heavily regulated environment.  If shortlisted, your cognitive and dynamic abilities, plus general suitability for this role, will be tested through a specialised assessment.

Throughout the selection process you will need to demonstrate that you are able to meet the academic demands of the training courses as well being able to maintain continuous focus, motivation and commitment, and ongoing maintenance of competence.

There are also strict medical criteria set down by the UK Civil Aviation Authority which must be met, so if successful at interview you’ll undergo a special aviation medical exam.

As the minimum regulatory age requirement to hold an ATCO License is 21, you must have reached your 20th birthday on or before the closing date. You must also be able to demonstrate that you currently hold the required permissions to work in the UK.

If you are shortlisted for the selection process then you will need to be available to undertake online aptitude tests during the week of 27 November and attend the assessment test in Gloucestershire in the week commencing 5 January 2015.

If you are successful at interview, then you must be prepared to attend  full-time intensive residential courses commencing on 20 April 2015.  After this you will commence Unit Training for approximately 6 months before starting work as a qualified ATCO.

For further information and an application form (please do not send CVs as they will not be considered) please e-mail recruitment@hial.co.uk and a recruitment pack will be e-mailed to you.  The closing date for applications is 12.00 on 14 November 2014.
