Though there are still a few weeks yet to go before the work is complete, a pedestrian crossing on Cromwell Street is back in action. Specialist engineers arrived from the mainland to install the signals.
A council spokesman explained: “The works on the Perceval Square redevelopment are progressing well and it is anticipated that the works will be complete by the end of August.
“The project has been delivered in a tight time scale and over the
summer months to meet the conditions of the funding package.

contractor UBC Ltd have programmed their work to minimise the
inconvenience during that time.
“Due to some delay in receiving the specified granite slabs the area in
the centre of the square is still to be completed and will remain fenced
off for safety reasons until the works are completed.”
Most of the works being carried out adjacent to the shop frontages was complete by the time the contractor commenced their summer trades holiday last Friday.
