A tourist who smeared excrement in two Stornoway accommodation premises faces jail if she fails to pay full compensation for the damage she caused.

Rosemary Kirkham was ordered to pay over £1475 for the clean-up including replacing a soiled mattresses when she appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The case has dragged on since the summer of 2013.

Kirkham, 52, of Exeter, previously pleaded guilty to defecating in her bed at a guest house in Stornoway, and smearing the excrement over the bed.

She admitted a similar charge at hotel within Stornoway town centre.

Charges that she paraded naked from the waist down by wearing only a T-shirt, displaying her private parts, in public spaces in the guest house and, two days later, in the kitchen of a hotel, had been dropped.

Honorary sheriff, Roddie Mackay, warned Kirkham, she would go straight to prison if she missed any of the £10 fortnightly instalments.
