The Western Isles Conservatives are cautioning islanders against voting for Labour in a bid to keep the SNP out.

Tory candidate Mark Brown says only his party will protect the Union.

He appealed for supporters of an United Kingdom to switch their vote to the Conservatives and keep David Cameron in Downing Street.

Recent polls suggest Labour will lose so many seats to the SNP in Scotland that it will be unable to form a government without help from other political parties.

Mr Brown believes Ed Miliband will backtrack on his promise not to come to a post-election arrangement with Nicola Sturgeon.

Mr Brown said: “As the General Election enters its final few days of campaigning, I would urge the electorate across the length and breadth of the Western Isles to vote for what they believe in and not have their head turned by desperate parties peddling half-truths to try and save their own skins.

“On doorsteps across the isles, many people who voted Lib Dem or Labour in the past are now looking at those parties and wondering where to put their cross on Thursday's ballot paper.”

He pledged: “There will be no vote-by-vote haggling between the SNP and a Conservative Prime Minister. We will always protect the United Kingdom.

“On doing deals with the Nationalists, Ed Miliband's mind has changed as frequently as the weather over these last six weeks of campaigning.

“Any deal between Labour and SNP will see hardworking families across Scotland pay for it via more borrowing, more debt and more taxes.”

Mark Brown added: “The SNP, despite what Nicola Sturgeon says, won't rule out a second independence referendum.

“We cannot continue to keep Scotland on pause. If people want a strong Unionist party that can take on the SNP, they have to vote for it. They have to vote Scottish Conservative.

“Only a vote for Mark Brown on May 7th can ensure that a strong voice for the Western Isles will be heard at Westminster.”

Only the Tories will protect the Union, says Brown
