The increased demands on caring for the elderly has been highlighted by the Western Isles Conservatives.

The Tory Party promised to put in place the “best possible” health and care service to look after older people.

Candidate Mark Brown stressed the importance of having a community care system that utilises resource and “spends its money on the front line” to care for the elderly.

Mr Brown pointed out that 21% of the Western Isles population is aged over 65 -  four per cent higher that the Scottish average.

Thus it is “vital we find solutions to allow our local health services to tackle the significant demographic problems faced with delivering healthcare due to this considerable population change,” he said.

Mr Brown pledged: “If elected me as your MP this Thursday, one of my key priorities will be to ensure the best possible health and wellbeing provisions are in place for older people in the Western Isles.

“It is also important that we work closely with service providers and ensure resource and funding is in place to allow older people in the Outer Hebrides to continue living in their own homes as independently as possible.

“If you want a true people's champion, to fight for the elderly and most vulnerable in society as your MP, vote for it. Vote Mark Brown on Thursday.”
