Tolsta ballots -
Two hours into the Western Isles referendum count and early indications from Tolsta ballots is a leaning to No.
SNP Comhairle Cllr Gordon Murray remains positive saying: “We’ve worked really hard and put a positive message across.
“It’s been an excellent campaign engaging with young and old alike and we’re looking for a positive outcome tonight.”
He continued: “It’s very difficult to gauge. There is a feeling up here that people don’t like to disclose their vote which it to be expected in a small community.”
Cllr Murray said he was also very impressed with island residents’ engagement in the independence debate and told of a Yes campaign visit to speak to the Primaries 4 to 7 of Sgoil An Rubha.
“I was just blown away by the questions the children asked,” he said.
“As a country it’s good to see that people are now more aware of how their country actually works.”
