Extra high waves on top of the incoming tides over the last week disrupted planes from trying to land on Barra’s beach runway.

On occasions the incoming Glasgow flight was cancelled as the sea just would not flow off the wide expanse of sand at Traigh Mhor.

On occasions, strong onshore winds also worked against the tide.

A spokesperson for Loganair said: "Services into Barra have been affected because of extremely high tidal patterns which prevented aircraft from landing on the beach."
