The UCVO thrift shop in Benbecula has donated all of last week’s takings towards the relief efforts for people affected by the earthquakes in Nepal.

The charity shop contributed nearly £400 towards the Western Isles-wide Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

Flora Maclean, supervisor of the thrift Shop said “we were delighted to be involved in this Western Isles wide initiative and contribute to what is a very worthwhile and continuing cause.”

Organisers of various fundraising activities have been working with Third Sector Hebrides (TSH) to promote and publicise their events.

Other communities considering similar fundraising can get in touch with TSH and become part of the Western Isles Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

It is anticipated that the Western Isles fund will close at the end of May when all funds will be directly donated to the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee) who co-ordinate and deliver on the ground aid relief.
