Three anglers were taken to hospital after their boat capsized on a freshwater loch in Lewis.

High winds caused a “freak wave” to topple the boat containing the men and a dog on Loch Coire Geurad - on the north side of Loch Langavat - near Scaliscro, Uig, on Saturday.

They were cold and wet after being in the water for a while. Eventually, the drifted ashore and one man went to Scaliscro, to raise the alarm.

Stornoway Coastguard helicopter flew the casualties to the Stornoway hospital late afternoon where they were checked over for hypothermia.

A coastguard team went out looking for the dog on but there was no sign of it.

However, the men later reported the spaniel was found safe on Sunday.

One local coastguard rescue volunteer who was visiting his new born baby the hospital turned out to assist at the helipad when the casualties were landed and transferred to the accident and emergency department .
