Police officers in Stornoway dealt with several incidents of violence and disorder at the weekend. 

A 42-year-old man was charged in connection with several assaults including an assault on a police officer after police received a report 10.50pm on Saturday at Gleann Dubh in Newmarket. He appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Monday. Bail was granted and the case continued to a later date.  

A 27-year-old woman also appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Monday on an assault charge. It follows an incident on the previous day when police officers attended at Perceval Road, Stornoway, following a report of a disturbance. She was released on bail and her case was adjourned to a later date.

Appearing from custody at the same court was a 43-year-old woman. She faces an assault charge following a reported disturbance at lunchtime at Seaforth Road on Sunday. Bail was permitted and the case was continued.  

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old male was arrested with threatening and abusive behaviour after an incident by Tesco supermarket. Police attended at 9.30pm on Saturday. He is also accused of assaulting a police officer and possessing controlled drugs. The man is expected to appear at Stornoway Sheriff Court at a later date.

A police spokesperson said: “Violence of any kind is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the Western Isles.

“Anyone with concerns or information about crime or drugs in the community should call police on 101 or, in the case of an emergency, 999. “
