The campaign countdown to Thursday’s independence referendum is on with both Yes and No camps determined they are set for a win.

With only days to go until the historic Scottish independence ballot, former Western Isles Labour MSP Alastair Morrison said: “We’re excited to be in the last week and all our phone polling, door knocking and street campaigning so far shows that we’re ahead.

“If all the people who promised to vote for us exercise their democratic right to do so on Thursday, we will win the country and win the islands.”

There will be no let-up in efforts this week, as Mr Morrison added: “Campaigning will continue all this week with people from the Barra to the Butt, of all ages and backgrounds, working with us to win a No vote.”

Feelings in the Yes camp are also extremely positive said the islands’ SNP MSP Alasdair Allan.

Mr Allan said: “The Yes campaign locally has been going great and it’s really stepped up in the last couple of months.

“We’ll be canvassing voters to come out right up until 10pm on Thursday and I’m more and more convinced it’s going our way.”

Dr Allan added: “This is the one opportunity Scotland has to gain independence. It’s the only chance to do this and I urge people to take it.”
