Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and NHS Western Isles have confirmed the death of a third resident from Dun Berisay following a coronavirus outbreak at the Stornoway care home.

A spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with family, friends and staff during this difficult time.”

Twenty five people - a mix of residents and staff - contracted coronavirus at the comhairle-run residential facility.

Over a third of elderly residents at the care home were diagnosed with the infection.

The last confirmed test at the home was on Wednesday.

The comhairle said it has now been five days since any resident tested Covid positive while only one staff member was confirmed with the virus since 30th July.

The spokesperson said: “We now have staff returning from their period of isolation which will improve the overall staffing of the care home.”

“Residents’ families are being kept up to date on an ongoing basis by social care staff.”

Teams from NHS Western Isles and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar continue to support the care home with their arrangements for infection prevention and control.

An incident management team met for the fifth time today (Friday) to monitor and assess arrangements.

Non-essential visiting at Dun Berisay continues to be suspended.
