Thief stole bags of peat     30/10/14

A thief has stolen 25 bags of bags of peat from a moorland road on Lewis.

After a summer of hard work cutting and lifting the peats by hand, a householder packed them into plastic Macaskill coal bags ready to be uplifted.

But a sneak thief helped themselves to the filled bags from the Carloway branch of the Pentland Road sometime this month.

The householder discovered the peats - part of the family’s winter fuel supply - were stolen when he went to collect them on Thursday.

Police are appealing for information and ask anyone who can help identify the culprit to call Stornoway police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
