A man accused of stealing a jacket out has been remanded in custody.

Paul Simmonds, of 11 Mosspark, Steinish, Lewis, denied the charge when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The 41-year-old is said to have gone into an unlocked car on Lewis Street and taking the garment.

The alleged incident occurred on Thursday.

His solicitor said Simmonds was "adamant he is innocent of the charge."

Trial was set for next month.
