Fraudsters are trying to trick islanders in the latest telephone scam to hit the Western Isles.

 

Local people are being telephone with the fake caller claiming to be from their GP surgery or the NHS.

 

The caller tries to sell them medication and requests bank account details.

 

In some cases, they suggest setting up a home appointments.

 

A Western Isles health board spokesperson stressed these “telephone calls are not being made by healthcare professionals, and that patients should never provide their bank details, when requested, over the telephone.”

 

She pointed out: “NHS staff will never ask for your bank details.”

 

People should report incidents to Trading Standards on 01851 822 694.

 

Patients are advised not to provide any personal details and not to set up appointments if they receive contact from anyone trying to sell medication.
