Three teenagers got into trouble at sea when their inflatable boat was blown about at the mercy of strong winds today.

The trio - two girls and a boy - sparked a rescue operation when they lost steerage in rough seas as force seven gusts blew their small craft around Stornoway harbour.

The alarm was raised at 4.30pm.

Stornoway lifeboat crew launched their own outboard-powered tender while Stornoway coastguard volunteers also went to the youngsters’ aid.

The teenagers were later landed safely ashore at the port’s Cromwell Street quay.
