A Lewis teenager sparked alarm when he appeared with a petrol bomb at his home, a court has heard.

Police were called when Alasdair Maciver appeared holding a bottle of fuel, with newspaper sticking out of the top. He had a cigarette lighter in his other hand during the incident last month.

Procurator fiscal David Teale told Stornoway Sheriff Court that the 18-year-old had earlier been abusive and was shouting obscenities at two women.

He punched doors and threw crockery about while constantly shouting, said the fiscal.

Later, police officers found the home-made incendiary in the garage.

Lawyer Angus Macdonald said Maciver was a recovering drug addict.

Mr Macdonald said: “He was still in a state of withdrawal from the drug,” at that time but would not behave that like now.

Maciver of 12 Heatherhill, Barvas, Lewis, admitted threatening behaviour, preparing a petrol bomb and placing people in a state of fear and alarm.

Sheriff Derek Livingston placed Maciver on two years supervision and ordered him to carry out 300 hours of unpaid community work.
