A car ended up stuck in a field after careering off the road and being abandoned by its driver.
Wheels were spinning and the engine revving when police officers came across the incident one June evening last year.
They spotted its teenage driver getting out and vanishing from the scene on a croft in Point in Lewis.
Officers called for reinforcements and the youngster was discovered “sitting in the middle of moorland.”
A breath test an hour later showed he had been drinking with a reading of 78mcg against the maximum limit of 22mcg.
He had never passed a driving test nor had a provisional licence.
At Stornoway Sheriff Court he was disqualified for 15 months and received a £710 financial penalty.
Sheriff Gordon Lamont highlighted it was a “serious” incident.
He added: “People could be killed because of this kind of offence.
“Your level of alcohol was over three times the limit.
“Against that background you did not hold a licence.”
