A teenager burnt a 15-year-old boy on the neck for no reason, Lochmaddy Sheriff Court was told.

The boy and his friends were given cider when socialised with Catlin Nash at her home in Winfield Way, Balivanich, in February last year, said procurator fiscal Karen Smith.

Later, she heated a metal teaspoon with a lighter and pressed it against his neck.

She told him she was “just having a laugh,” suggesting he “man up.”

The boy received treatment for the wound at a local medical surgery the following day.

Lawyer Gordon Seaton told the court 18-year-old Nash, who pleaded guilty to the charge, had no explanation for “this stupidity.”

She said she had not been drinking that day and her action was “completely out of character,” the court heard.

Sheriff Chris Dickson said: “This was a idiotic thing to have done and I am in no doubt it was very painful for the boy concerned.”

He ordered her to be of good behaviour for six months and deferred sentencing to August.
