Isles MP Angus MacNeil is demanding action from Vodafone to restore the 3G signal in Tarbert, Harris, which has been unavailable for several months.

Mr MacNeil contacted Vodafone in March to highlight the matter and was reassured that efforts were being made to fix the fault, however it has still not been resolved.

The Rural Open Sure Signal was launched in Tarbert in October with support from Mr MacNeil and was aimed at providing 3G coverage and strong signal in a previous not-spot.

Mr MacNeil said: “I am disappointed by the lack of commitment by Vodafone to fix the fault at Tarbert.

“The launch of 3G coverage through the Rural Open Sure Signal programme was a big step forward but to have this service lacking for many months, especially as we are now into the peak tourist season, is extremely frustrating for the community.

“I have written to Vodafone expressing my disappointment at the lack of priority given to this matter which I have repeatedly raised with them for several months. I am urging them to resolve the fault as a matter of urgency.”
