A car which was destroyed by flames in Stornoway last night last night is believed to have been set on fire deliberately.

 

The vehicle was well alight when the fire service was alerted to the incident on Anderson Road at 10.20pm.

 

Two fire crews attended and used hoses to extinguish the flames.

 

A man spotted running from the scene is being sought by police.

 

A police spokesman said: “The incident is being treated as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.

 

“In particular, we would like to trace and speak to a man who was seen in the area at the time running from the scene”

 

Police also want to trace the “occupants of a red car which was observed in the vicinity around the time in question.”
