Making life better for blind and partially sighted people

SUPPORT WORKER

 

Salary £10.33 per hour. For, 12 hours per week. Permanent post.

 

Sight Action is a registered charity supporting visually impaired people throughout the Highlands and Western Isles.

 

Our field work services assess, support and offer information and training to blind and partially sighted people of all ages, helping them to live as independently and as safely as possible.

 

We are currently looking to recruit a Support Worker based in Western Isles Sensory Centre.

 

As a Support Worker You will need to have a good understanding of common eye conditions, be able to demonstrate specialist equipment, manage stock control.  

 

Have the ability to deal with members of the public, handle cash/card transactions, and have good knowledge of Microsoft office and access database.

 

For this particular post you will also need a good understanding of hearing loss and be able to assess, support, demonstrate specialist equipment and do simple repairs to hearing aids to deaf and hard of hearing people of all ages.  

 

You will also be required to oversee BSL classes and Lip-reading classes and facilitate support groups.  

 

On a monthly basis you will be required to be in attendance at the audiology clinic held on our WISC premises to give support and advice to patients attending the clinic.
