Sunglasses’ thief is jailed        15/9/14

An islander has been sent back to jail shortly after his release from prison.

Alistair Macaulay, 31, stole two pairs of designer sunglasses from Robert Doig, opticians, on Kenneth Street, Stornoway, on 2 September.

In July, Macaulay was jailed for four months for breaching his bail conditions by failing to obey a 7pm to 7am curfew as well as honouring a ban to keep out of Stornoway.

He stole the sunglasses soon after being released early from prison. He was still on bail for an earlier, separate offence.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court, Sheriff Kevin Veal jailed Macaulay of 6 Druim nan Curracag, Callanish, for a total of six months which includes his unexpired portion of the previous jail sentence.
