Emergency services attended what locals initially reported as sounds of an explosion and loud bang at a substation at Callanish in Lewis, earlier today.
A significant electrical fault at the plant had the consequence of causing blanket powercuts across Lewis and Harris.
Hydro staff from power company SSE are undertaking repairs at the site this evening.
Energy supplies to affected powerlines serving island districts were being switched back on.
