The Barra-bound ferry was forced to turn back to Oban after experiencing technical problems today.

There had been hopes the MV Isle of Lewis would be fixed to carry out a late sailing.

However, her timetable was cancelled for the day.

Ferry company Cal Mac said Oban ferry terminal will remain open overnight for passengers unable to find accommodation in the town.

Engineers are investigating the fault tonight.

As a result, Monday's morning sailing from Castlebay to Oban has been cancelled.

If the problem is repaired, the next expected departure is the lunchtime run from Oban, Cal Mac said.
