Stowaway faces deportation 4/5/14
A stowaway found on a Norwegian cruise ship on her voyage to Stornoway has been handed
over to the UK Border Agency.
The man slipped onto the MS Fram unnoticed amongst the many shoreside workmen carrying
out maintenance in the departure port of Bergen.
He was well hidden when security checks for stowaways was carried out when the liner
sailed with passengers for a cruise to Scotland.
The man apparently gave himself up after he was sure the vessel was within UK waters.
The man was taken away by Stornoway police and handed over to immigration officials
who were trying to verify his identify and status. He faces being returned to Norway
with the ship owner possibly made to pay for the repatriation flights.
Stowaways entering the UK at any sea port without the required documents face deportation
as they are considered to be illegal immigrants.
