Stornoway Sailing Club forge links with Gairloch 9/9/10
An invitation by Gairloch Boat Club saw three Stornoway yachts travel across the Minch for the dinghy challenge weekend on the 4th and 5th of September.
Three junior members of Stornoway Sailing Club (David Skelly, Conor Cowan, and Kitty Darling) took part in the races, with 24 dinghies crossing the start line.
With such a large fleet the racing was exhilarating, in changeable conditions which saw more than one capsize. Best result amongst the Stornoway teams was 'Team Seahold', skippered by David Skelly, achieving 6th out of 24.
Gairloch were very kind hosts making dinghies available to the visitors and providing a superb buffet meal afterwards with music going on late into the night, making the weekend a very sociable affair.
Some of the Gairloch boats had visited Stornoway earlier this year during the festival week and it is hoped that the two clubs will continue to support each others' events.
Stornoway Sailing Club runs a friendly race every Wednesday night and welcomes new members, whether boat owners or just people who wish to have a go at sailing.
