Motorist knocked down cyclist      3/3/13

A motorist who wasn’t looking where he was going and knocked down a cyclist has been fined.

Robert Heriot of 12 Sheshader, Point, Lewis, previously admitted a charge of careless driving at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The court heard the 47-year-old drove out off a junction at Cabarfeidh Road in Inaclete, Stornoway, and turned into the path of the male pedal cyclist.

Procurator fiscal David Teale said the cyclist was “sent flying” and was rendered unconsciousness as a result.

The accident victim was in hospital for some days but there are no long term injuries.

Sheriff David Sutherland fined Heriot £400 to be paid at £60 a month. He also imposed six penalty points on his driving licence.
