Island youngsters have the chance to try out judo during the upcoming October break thanks to an innovative new partnership between The Scottish Salmon Company and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, with support from EventScotland.

As part of the successful Motiv8 programme, Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais will be the location for taster sessions in a sport which continues to go from strength to strength at a national level.

On Thursday the 14th of October 2010, 96 youngsters from three different age stages are invited to join the Scottish judo expert and former European gold medallist George Kerr, who is only one of seven worldwide to have attained 10th Dan status, and Ultimate Judo coach Gordon McCathie for the free 45 minute taster sessions.

The Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais judo sessions also make up part of a series of events taking place nationwide to mark the flag Handover Ceremony at the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Dehli on the same day.

Three sessions will take place over the course of the morning of the 14th; the first will be aimed at pupils in P1 and P2 and will take place between 0900 and 0945.

Those in P3 & P4 are invited to attend the session between 1000 and 1045 and for those in P5 – P7 their taster session will commence at 1100.
