Fog causes chaos for air services        19/2/13

Good weather has been creating serious disruptions to air travellers in the Western Isles today.

The high pressure system bringing unseasonable sunny and warm weather to the Hebrides resulted in a blanket of mist over parts of Lewis.

As a result Stornoway Airport was fog bound for most of the day.

The 7am Glasgow to Stornoway as well as the 7.50am Inverness to Stornoway service diverted to Benbecula. Passengers transferred by road and ferry via Uist and Harris to Stornoway.

The early morning flight from Edinburgh landed at Inverness instead and passengers returned to the capital.

The morning plane to Uist and many of the outward mainland bound flights were cancelled until the fog lifted in the afternoon.
