The funeral of a “compassionate and warm-
Lorna Macdonald died after her car left the road and landed in a freshwater loch in severe weather near Horsacleit, South Harris, on Thursday.
The 26-
Ms Macdonald lived with mother Peigi Flora Macdonald, a retired primary school teacher, at their home at Cross Street, Stornoway. Lorna was an only child and her father died a number of years ago.
She had worked in the Stornoway Post Office for a period after graduating from Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University a few years ago. She worked as a speech therapist in Hamilton for about a year before getting a promoted post in Oban.
She relocated back home about 20 months ago and travelled about Lewis and Harris for her job, initially helping children with speech problems. Recently, she undertook two courses in the North of England to be able to assist island patients with throat cancer to communicate better.
A wake will be held in Stornoway’s Kenneth Street Free Church at 9pm tonight (wed).
The funeral service commences at 11.30am in the same church tomorrow (thurs) with the lift after 12 noon. Lorna will be buried at Bosta in Great Bernera.
Her uncle, Rory Nicolson, said Lorna was a very “loving girl and dedicated to her work” and always sought to help people.
He said: “Lorna enjoyed working with children with Down Syndrome and had a great rapport with kids.
“She went on courses to learn new skills so she could help adult patients where cancer had affected their speech. Everyone who knew her, remarked how kind and caring she was. She really was a people’s person, always willing to try and help others.”
He added: “Lorna is sorely missed by her mother Peigi Flora, granny Rhoda Nicolson in Crossbost, and the whole extended family.”
