Heartened as I am with the very healthy list of prospective candidates for the Stornoway Trust elections, I sincerely hope that the intention of the majority of the applicants, once elected, will be to consider the wide range of responsibility the trust has to oversee.
Call me cynical but I suspect the large number of applicants at this election is to put forward individual views or concerns regarding the recent controversy of Sabbath usage of trust areas rather than the wider concern of the government of the trust responsibilities.
I accept that some matters require to be aired in a more public forum but I ask the successful appointees to consider their overall areas of responsibility as well.
