Ferry travellers will have to suffer middle-of-the-night sailings when the Ullapool linkspan is being replaced in Spring.

No vehicles will be transported to Ullapool after Saturday 21 February until the pier works are complete.

A temporary car ferry service direct between Stornoway and Skye is planned to run from February 22 until April 7.

The disruption will hit the very busy Easter holiday period. Western Isles schools break up on 27 March.

It is proposed to use the MV Isle of Lewis for a vehicle and passenger service between Stornoway and Uig, Skye. The vessel will be off station for refit up to then.

As the MV Isle of Lewis cannot berth at Uig, Skye at low tide, her timetable will change every day.

Passengers must double check departure times carefully as no two days are rarely the same .

Many occasions, there will be only one sailing a day for vehicles - on occasions this departs Stornoway from 3.10am in the morning. Other days, the only ferry on the Stornoway route leaves Skye around 8am.

Timetable chaos for Stornoway to Skye ferry service

19 November 2014

Cal Mac intends to operate a passenger-only service between Ullapool-Stornoway with the MV Loch Seaforth. There will be no service on 22 February and 22 March.

Freight vessel, MV Clipper Ranger, will be kept on charter to operate a freight service between Stornoway and Uig. The Ranger’s timetable will also change daily with the tides due to her draft and restricted water depth at the Uig pier.
