New plans for student flats complex in Stornoway

30  April 2017

A new location has been earmarked to build a block of student flats for the Lews Castle College.

Negotiations are underway with the owners of a site in the Stornoway area.

Last year planning permission was turned down for an application to construct a four-storey block of 45 rooms on the site of the former bakery at Stag Road in Bayhead.

Concerns arose over its design, scale, form and large size within the neighbouring conservation area.

Accommodation was to be arranged in clusters of six bedroom flats plus four studios.

New student accommodation is “fundamental” for the expansion of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), says the developer.
