Appeal for information after man injured in over roof-fall accident

24 April 2015

Police are appealing for information after a 22-year-old islander fell from the roof of his flat.

Daniel McCulloch was seriously injured after toppling from the two-storey high roof in Stornoway town centre.

He suffered broken limbs and a head injury after crashing onto the roadway at the bottom end of Church Street on Thursday evening.

The entrance to his shared corner flat is on Kenneth Street. Mr McCulloch fell off Church Street side.

Paramedics treated him at the scene for around an hour before they could drive in an ambulance to the hospital.

It is unclear what Mr McCulloch’s intentions were by going onto the roof top.

It has not been confirmed if he slipped or intentionally jumped.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 6.41pm on Thursday, police in Stornoway attended at an address on Kenneth Street after officers heard sounds of a disturbance in the nearby vicinity.

“Upon entering the premises, a man in his twenties; who was believed to be responsible for the disturbance, was spoken to by officers.”

“Following further enquiries with other members of the public about the incident, police received a report of a man on the roof of a building.

“Officers attended at Church Street and found a man on the roadside, having from the rooftop.

“This was found to be the 22 year-old man who had been previously spoken to by officers.”

“The injured man received serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to Western Isles Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.”

Police appealed for people with any information about the incident to phone 101.
