Western Isles MP Angus Brendan MacNeil has welcomed the announcement that the Post Office has decided to retain and invest in Stornoway Post Office.

 

The Francis Street premises was earmarked to be shifted elsewhere in the town. It is understood possible new location was within Stornoway Town Hall but the council now operates its customer service office there.

 

Another could have been the library or a supermarket or shop.

Welcome for Stornoway Post Office modernisation plans

Despite interest from several potential partners, the Post Office did not reached an agreement with a suitable retail partner to secure the long-term viability of the branch.

 

MP Angus MacNeil said: “In 2012, Stornoway Post Office won the title ‘Best Performing Branch in the UK’, I am pleased to receive confirmation that the Post Office has decided to retain and invest in Stornoway Post Office as part of the organisation’s on-going modernisation programme.

 

“Stornoway Post Office will remain under Post Office management and I understand that the Post Office plan to invest in the branch to modernise it as part of their on-going transformation programme.”
